Young London
Young London is an ambitious
diverse exhibition of contemporary art that focuses
on interesting emerging trends, ideas and attitudes
within the fine art culture of the city. Offering
a vibrant and detailed exploration of the varied practices
of the next generation of London's artistic talent.
Young London includes many works produced especially
for this exhibition. Inspired by the dynamic, young
and emerging contemporary art scene in London, this
exhibition has been devised to amass a body of work
by the artists who play a prominent role in shaping
the future of contemporary art both in London and
internationally.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
Responsibility
for installing the above sculptures by the waters of Leith,
has been OUTSOURCED to NULL & VOID,
a dynamic collective of emerging contemporary artists from
London.
As
a culmination of this process, this group will produce a
radical autobiographical promotional film inspired by their
VIBRANT JOURNEY to Edinburgh to INSTALL the sculptures along
the WATERS OF LEITH.
Alongside
a rave and the sculpture trail in Edinburgh, this film will
constitute a permanent civic monument.

If
you do, for example make artwork, or indeed form a radical
sculpture trail as part of a wider curatorial programme
in Edinburgh, you’re actually conforming to what the culture
industry expects and requires of you whilst all the time
you are thinking you’re doing whatever you want as part
of an original curatorial concept - but you’re not. You’re
doing the opposite of what you would actually decide for
yourself. If you do things that are ‘contemporary art’
for inclusion in a wider economy, you are by default precluding
the possibility of a genuine community or local ‘practice’
evolving because you are destroying any hope of it emerging
by doing it as though it was the local identity and then
doing it and selling it. Every time someone buys into
it, it is reinforced that that is the real identity. That’s
the trap to overcome.
